Baltimore Townhome - Price Comparison
  Renovated in 2011

What does a short term rental cost?

As you can imagine there is a wide variation.  In a smaller city you could see prices as low as $1,500 to $2,000 per month.  In Colorado Springs more typical rates are $1,500 to $3,000 per month depending on the number of bedrooms and baths in the unit and if there is a carport or garage.  Of course the level of furnishings and accessorizing will also determine the price.  But remember that you are getting more, MUCH more than a hotel room – see the price comparison immediately below.

Price Comparison:

In order to give you a feel for how our fully furnished homes compare to extended stay hotel alternatives in Colorado Springs we have priced a two month stay for a corporate trainer who is traveling with her husband.  In order to compare apples to apples we priced all options for a stay during the same dates.  We even chose the winter months when prices for hotels (and for our own temporary housing) is slightly less expensive than during the summer months.

The options we investigated:

The first option we will look at is an average extended stay hotel; the second a better extended stay hotel and third is an upscale extended stay hotel (all pricing as of September 2012).

An average extended stay hotel – Extended Stay America (www.extendedstayamerica.com); 5855 Corporate Drive; Colorado Springs CO, 80919 - 719/266 4206.  Their web site says: "A Studio Suite here provides fully-equipped kitchens and plenty of work space".  Other amenities include: refrigerator, microwave, and stovetop; a workspace with computer data port; free local phone calls; personalized voice mail; iron and full size ironing board; on site guest laundry; dining and cooking utensils provided; wireless high-speed Internet access (extra fees apply).

This is the pricing information we found when we went to this hotels web site:

Here are some photos of this Extended Stay America and the room that we priced for this comparison.  A quick review of the images below shows that what you get at Extended Stay America is little more than a hotel room with a small kitchen squeezed in.  Even with two people in this small space it will soon become crowded and uncomfortable.

A better extended stay hotel – Fairfield Inn and Suites (www.marriott.com); 7085 Commerce Center Drive; Colorado Springs CO, 80919 - 719/488 4644 (the closest hotel to our three Monument townhomes).  The prices shown below reflect two different types of rooms.  The first is their standard guest room with two queen beds (shown in the image to the left below).  If you want a larger room with more amenities you can order their suite with either one king bed or two queen beds.  The suite includes a separate sitting area and a mini fridge and microwave and is shown in the image to the right below.

An upscale extended stay hotel – Marriott’s Residence Inn (www.marriott.com); 3880 North Academy Boulevard; Colorado Springs, CO 80917 - 719/574 0370.  As you would expect at this Mobile three star facility you will enjoy complimentary hot breakfast buffet daily and complimentary hospitality time with beer, wine and soda served Monday through Thursday evenings. There is a seasonal outdoor pool and hot tub with a children's playground area, sport court, and sand volleyball court.

Most suites feature a fireplace and cable TV with HBO.  There are fully equipped kitchens including a conventional oven, dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator and all cooking and eating utensils.  You also get a speakerphone with voice mail and free wireless Internet service.

The prices we obtained from the Marriott website is shown below.  The pricing reflects two very different sort of accomodations.  In the image to the far left below you can see their penthouse suite.  This is a very nice suite with a loft that has it's own sleeping accomodations and a downstairs area with a second bedroom and a sofa bed in the living area (total occupancy can be up to six people).  Their studio room is shown in the image in the middle.  They also offer traditional rooms with little more than a bed as shown in the image to the right (pricing for this room not shown below).
